WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
f UPPER PLAIN MEETING. - OFFICERS FOR YEAR. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Upper 'Plain Women’s Institute was held recently' at the residence of Mrs Mannell. Mrs Gordon Dagg presided and there was a very good attendance of members. During the afternoon Mrs Joblin gave a very interesting talk on Institute affairs, its origin, aims and its formation, and was -warmly thanked for her information. The Misses from the KaitunaiFernridge Institute gave a demonstration on smocking on checked gingham which proved very interesting. Competitions, resulted as follows: — Best bloom, Mrs C. R. Jones, 1; Mrs Condon, 2. Best scones, Miss Cohen • and Mrs W. Taplin (equal), 1. Best ■ darned sock, Mrs Jones, 1; Mrs W. Taplin, 2. The afternoon tea hostesses were Mrs 'E. Taplin and Miss MacKenzie. The officers for-the year are as follows:—President, Mrs Gordon Dagg; i hon.. secretary, Mrs T. Mannell; treasurer, Mrs'W. Thomas; committee, Mesdames Condon. W. Taplin, E. Taplin, and Miss Trass.
A .very pleasant gathering was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
