GOLF CONTESTS. HOLDERS BEATEN IN BALFOUR BADGES. (“Times-Age” Special.) ■ The first of the medal rounds for handicap was played on the Greytown links on Saturday afternoon. The best score off the stick was handed in by J. C. Feast, 76. The best net score was secured by H. G. Carter, 85-17-68. The cards handed in were: J. C. Feast, 76-3-73; J. W. Tate, 93-20-73; Ray Ingley, 92-19-73; E. Williams, 94,20,74; C. S. Shedden, 96-24-72; H. R. Feast, 82-7-75; T. Nelson, 83-8-75; T. Gold, 87-14-73; A. G. Peterson, 102-24-78; H. Keltie, 98-22-76; E. Feast, 91-12-79; C. Sturnell, 90-15-75; N. McLeod, 87-17-70; G. Eagar, 113-24-89; A. Carter, 100-20-80; W. Everett, 117-24-93; C. Burch, 106-24-82. In playing the short hole of 90yds over the willow tree, H. K. Feast put his tee shot in a bird’s nest in the top of the tree. Balfour Badges. In the first game of this season for the Balfour Badges C. Stunell and H. G. Carter defeated the holders, H. R. Feast and J.i W. Tate, 3 and 2. Ladies' Golf. The winners of Mrs Kiernan’s trophy were; Mrs Gold, 92-21-71, Mrs J. Jury, 90-19-71. Papawai Maori Pa. With certain Government assistance already proffered, and by special district effort, it is hoped, in the very near future, to convert the Papawai Maori Pa meeting house into a building which while retaining the national characteristics of the natives, will serve as a place of amusement for European and Maori alike. The Renovation Committee, which includes Mr Ben Roberts, M.P. for Wairarapa, and' Mr. J. Robertson, M.P. for Masterton, has become a very active organisation, which has behind it a ladies’ committee of over twenty. Following the resignation of Mrs Boyd as secretary, Mr R. G. Vile, a member of the committee, has been prevailed upon to take over the position. Buildings Dismantled. With the complete dismantling of buildings at the Papawai Pa, the Renovation Committee has a certain amount of useful second-hand building timberto dispose of and an advertisement relative to this appears elewhere. ■ Personal.' ’’ * < The death occurred at Wellington on April 24, of 'Mr Finlay lan Mac Lean, eldest son of tne late Mrs A. G. MacLean of Greytown,- and son-in-law of Mr and Mrs A. Taggart, late of Matahiwi, Masterton, and now of Fitzherbert Street, Petone. The deceased, who was 37 years of age, leaves a widow and three young children.
