BRIGHT BALL

oST MATTHEW’S OLD GIRLS. PRESENTATION OF DEBUTANTES A gay scone was presented in the Masonic Hall last night on the occasion of the annual ball of the St Matthew’s School Old Girls’ Association. Dancers were present in large numbers and the ball proved to be thoroughly enjoyable in every way. Dahlias, chrysanthemums and autumn leaves provided effective decorations, while on the debutantes’ table were brass candlesticks, holding gold-col-oured candles. On the front of the white tablecloth were green loops and bows. Salvias, dahlias, chrysanthemums and autumn leaves were used for embracing the beauty of this setting. Mesdames Skeet, Moser and Coom were responsible for the decorative scheme and Mr E. W. Payton provided lampshades in the school colours, green and gold, which added to the general attractiveness of the hall. The music was played by. Frank Pool’s Orchestra. The debutantes were: Miss H. Smith, lace crinoline; Miss Ethne Todd, white crinoline net with pale blue posy; Miss R. Burling, white lace and net; Miss E. Prior, white lace; Miss Y. Jones, white georgette, gold lame trimmings; Miss Diana Bolton, white taffeta and net, and Miss Betsy Sutherland, pink chiffon. The debutantes were presented to Mrs Max Cleghorn (Principal of the School) who handed to each a bouquet. Committees were as follow: —Mothers, Mesdames E. M. Hodder, L. B. Maunsell, O. Smith, J. W. Bird and N. H. Prior; girls, Misses Nora Beetham, Jocelyn Betts, Dorothy Todd, Shirley Mace, Leslie Beetham and Nora Robinson (secretary); supper, Mesdames E. McLaren, E. M. Hodder, O. Smith and J. W. Bird.

Much credit was due to the organisers and many workers for the success of the ball.
