PIRINOA

HEAVY SWELL CLOSES LAKE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The, outlet of the lake was opened yesterday but during the night a heavy swell came up and completely undid the whole of the work. At present a strong northerly is blowing which, it is hoped, will help eventually to force the water through. Unless an opening is made within the next few days shooters will have an enviable time at the opening of the season. In most cases “mai mais” are well under water and with the water still backing up a great many will completely disap-, pear. Personal Items. Mrs Didsbury and her two sons were the guests of her sister, Miss McDougall, at the weekend. The many friends of Mrs S. Hall will be pleased to know that the health of her mother, who was seriously ill, has shown a decided improvement. Mr and Mrs W. Watson, who have been visiting the South Island, have returned home. Mr and Mrs A. Te Maari Junr. and Mr T. Smith have returned to Wanganui. Mrs M. Waiwera is visiting Wanganui. Mr and Mrs Cowan, who were on a short visit to Feilding, have returned home. Mr B. McKenzie, who has been in indifferent health for some time, was a visitor to Wellington for a few days. Golf.

The annual golf fixture between the local club and Hinakura will be played on May 14 at Hinakura. The fixture, which in previous years has been most enjoyable, will no doubt prove more so, as the Hinakura Club possesses some players of considerable ability. The Pirinoa players are looking forward to the match with keenest interest, and players are putting in a good deal of practice. Inter-club matches with Martinborough, Featherston and other clubs will follow.
