GREYTOWN
WOMEN’S DIVISION. ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Greytown Branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon. The president, Mrs Beu, occupied the chair, and there was a record attendance of members. Those present stood in silence out of respect to Mrs C. W. Slater, and also in sympathy with Mesdames Duff, Hawke, Vile and Wiggins, who have recently suffered bereavements. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames G. R. Jury, Tully, Stevens, S. Skeet, Bull, O’Neale, G. Ingley, W. Hodge, Bayliss and York. In accepting the resignation of Mrs E. Graham, who has left the district, Mrs Beu expressed appreciation of the valuable work Mrs Graham had done for the W.D.F.U.
New members present were Mesdames Kearney, Snell and Nicholson and they were given a hearty welcome. Mrs H. D. Bayliss was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for making the wreath for the Division on Anzac Day. A visit is to be paid to Buchanan Home on May 3, and all members are to take a plate. Those unable to attend on that day are asked to leave their cakes at Mrs Johnson’s, Main Street, or at Mr Carter’s shop. A grant oi £5 was made to the community chest and Women’s Rest Home at Awapuni.
The annual report submitted stated that the membership of the branch was 108.
Mrs Beu thanked the members for the loyal support given her during the past year, and complimented the members on tne happy atmosphere which had surrounded all their meeting.
Thanks were expressed to the auditor (Mr J. Kiernan) and also to the Press.
The election of officers resulted as followsI—President, 1 —President, Mrs R. Beu (reelected); secretary, Mrs W. G. K. Wiggins (re-elected for the twelfth time); vice-presidents, Mesdames Tilyard, Denny, F. C. Bunny, Svenson; treasurer, Miss Eagar; committee, Mesdames Hutchings, Udy, Dyson, Barnard, Bayliss, Carter, A. Haigh and A. "Johnson; delegates to Dominion conference, Mesdames Beu, Wiggins, and Miss Eagar; trustee to the Greytown branch, Mrs Beu; delegates to the provincial council, Mesdames, Beu, Wiggins and Miss Eagar. Mrs H. Tilyard was appointed in charge of exchange table for this year. A vote of thanks was accorded to Miss Udy the retiring sick visitor. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Whimp, Terry, Bunny and Hercock. Next meeting a scone competition (wholemeal and white) is to be held. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. Dairy Factory Meeting. The Greytown Dairy Factory suppliers are having a meeting on Friday night, when important proposals will be discussed. Personal. The death occurred at the Greytown Hospital on Tuesday of Mrs Mary Nicolson, widow of the late Mr Albert Nicolson. for many years a resident of the Wairarapa. Mrs Nicolson came from Ireland when a girl, lived in Carterton for many years, then at Te Wharau, until ill-health overtook, her, and some years ago she entered the Greytown hospital. The late Mrs Nicolson was known for her many generous acts and kindly disposition, and much sympathy is extended to her two sons, Donald (Wellington) and Gordon (Akitio). A daughter, (Aileen) died some time ago. Mr Donald Nicolson (Masterton) and Mr Hector Nicolson (Otaki) are brothers-in-law.
