WEDDINGS

SMITH—MATTHEWS. Friendly interest was evidenced in, a pretty wedding celebrated at St. Petei s Church, Terrace End, on Saturday, April 15, when Joan Isabelle, elder daughter of the late Mr and Mrs H. A. Matthews, of Papatahi, Western Lake, South Wairarapa, was married to James Stephen, son of Mr and Mrs J. W. Smith. Canon Stephenson (uncle of the bride) performed the ceremony and Mr R. W. Matthews, of Waiorongomai (also an uncle of the bride) gave her in marriage. The church had been artistically decorated with autumn shaded chrysanthemums and dahlias by friends of the bride, who was a former pupil of St. Matthew’s Collegiate School for Girls, Masterton. A becoming gown of parchment satin and a long tulle veil with a coronet of orange blossoms . weie worn by the bride, who carried a shower bouquet of gladioli, carnations, freesias and maidenhair fern. The bride was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss l Rita Smith (sister of the bridegroom) and Miss Mary Matthews (sister of the bride), who wore delightful redingote frocks of maize georgette over flowered taffeta. They wore half circlets of flowers in their hair and carried autumn-tinted bouquets of chrysanthemums. Mr R. Jounneaux, of Whangarei, was the best'man.

A reception was held at the Rosco tearooms after the ceremony. Miss H. E. Akers (aunt of the bride) received the guests wearing a navy frock and hat relieved-with pink and carrying a pink bouquet. Mrs Smith (mother of the bridegroom) wore a black and white frock and carried a bouquet of scarlet flowers. When the bride left for her honeymoon she wore a smart navy coat and skirt with a blue'Hungarian blouse embellished with pleasant embroidery and navy hat and accessories. Mr and Mrs J. S. Smith will reside at Taihape. GRAY—BLANE. A quiet wedding was celebrated recently at the Church of the Epiphany, when Dorothy Edith, eldest daughter of Mrs and the late Mr G. Blane, of Vivian Street, Masterton, was married to Francis John, only son of Mr and Mrs R. C. Gray, Wrigley Street, Masterton. The Rev. T. V. Pearson offciated at the ceremony ,and Mrs W. G. Perry presided at the organ. • The bride, who was escorted by her brother, Mr C. G. Blane, of Waipawa, was attired in ,a gown of parchment satin, with a tulle veil worn from a coronet of orange blossom, kindly lent by a friend of the bride, and carried a bouquet of deep cream roses and maiden hair fern. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Mona Blane, who was dressed in a gown of clover georgette, with a hair band of clover flowers and gold leaves, and carried a bouquet of belladonna lilies and maiden hair fern. Mr H. K. Smith carried-out the duties of best man.

A reception was afterwards held at the Epiphany Hall. Mr and Mrs Gray left' later on a caravan tour of the North Island.
