IN CHANGEABLE WEATHER

YOUR SKIN NEEDS PROTECTION. To keep your complexion always at its best, you must prepare for the various seasons in advance. Autumn weather is always changeable—hot or cold days, windy, wet or fine. It is hard to foretell what the next twenty-four hours will be like, and therefore your skin will require protection in every possible manner. Naturally, your skin will now require- a. slightly different treatment from, that used during summer. Astringents will not be used as frequently as in mid-summer, and it will be found that a good cleansing cream with a slightly astringent base will be excellent. This will not only nourish and tone up the skin, but will also help keep it clean and free from blemishes. If the skin becomes rough it can be cured' in practically a night by massagr ing with cocoa butter. It can be quite easily melted by placing in a cup arid allowing to stand for a few minutes in a: basin of hot water. Apply it liberally to the skin and allow it to remain on all night. If you require a softening milk or cream for the hands, honey and almonds is excellent for this purpose. This will not only keep the skin soft and smooth, but will, also help powder to hold on the arms better.

Another excellent plan is to keep some glycerine in a prominent place, and every time you wash the hands, whilst they are still wet massage some of the glycerine well into the skin. Protecting the Skin. If the day is cold.and chilly, with rather a biting wind, your skin will then require protection, and this can best be accomplished by using a vanishing cream and powder during the daytime, and by thoroughly massaging with a good skin-food each night. Naturally great care must be exercised whilst massaging so that the best results are obtained. Never stretch the skin downwards, and remember that the tissues of the skin must be moved ever so lightly, otherwise it will become stretched, and although, it may seem improved at first, after a very short period it will take on a relaxed appearance, which will be practically impossible to remedy. Only the most gentle friction with the finger-tips should be indulged in. If the windy weather cuts into the eyes and makes them appear red and sore try the following preventive treatment. Bathe the closed, lids with a 10-1 tion of one part of eau de Cologne and I two parts of rosewater. Each night and morning, bathe the eyes with weak boracic water. Ybu will find that it is more soothing if the water is just slightly warm. If your skin is inclined to be dry, now is the time you must start feeding and nourishing it so that it can face the cold, rigorous days of winter. Olive oil is excellent for this purpose. Warm a little, and after washing your face in warm water and drying gently smear a little of the warm oil over the face with the finger-tips. It will soften and feed the skin. This simple treatment is also excellent for filling out scraggy hollows in arms, necks, and shoulders. Carrots to the Rescue. If your skin has become coarse and blotchy through over-exposure to the sun during the summer days you will find that the following simple carrot lotion is an excellent cleanser. Procure as many carrot tops as is I possible, wash them, and then cut them | up very finely. To each four ounces of the shredded tops add one pint of water and allow to boil. After they have boiled for about three minutes stand to one side and allow to cool. When cold strain and add half an ounce of spirits of camphor. Mix well together and bottle. Add a tablespoonful of the above lotion to your wash water each morning, and also place some in a scent spray so that eacn night you can spray the' face before retiring. This lotion is really excellent, and will not harm the most sensitive of skins. If you desire to bleach your skin so that it will be white and clear for the dancing season you could start now with gentle oatmeal packs. Mix some toilet oatmeal in a saucer with enough witch-hazel to form a paste. Smeai this on the face, and allow, to remain on for 15 minutes, after which rinse it off with warm water, followed by cold. Any of the above simple treatments carried out during the autumn days will help your skin to face winter bravely.
