POST OFFICE BUSY
SOCIAL SECURITY REGISTRATIONS. Complaints have been made that the Money Order and Savings Bank section of the Masterton Post Office had been considerably . congested during the past day or two and that persons having business in this branch have had to wait unduly long before being attended to. The reason for the congestion is the registration of women under the Social Security scheme, which involves the handling of several thousand applications. It was ascertained from a Post Office official this morning that everything possible was being done to deal with the business as expeditiously as possible. Three tellers were kept fully employed, one dealing with registrations alone, while the other tellers gave assistance when this was possible. It was pointed out that although the position yesterday was complicated somewhat by the payment of pensions, which added to the volume of business to be handled, no really serious congestion had occurred. It was suggested, however, that persons wishing to avoid waiting should make a point of attending in the morning, when business generally was not usually so brisk.
