—+ , ■ ■ WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY NO CHANGE IN GENERAL RATE. WATNUIORU VALLEY ROAD METALLING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council was held in Carterton yesterday. The meeting was presided over by Mr Duncan McGregor and others present were: Councillors A. E. Reid, E. W. Allen, W. A. Renall, L. S. Gallon, F. Court, F. W. Joblin. A. McGregor and C. A. Cameron and the County Clerk. Mr E. T. Beaven. The treasurer reported a credit balance at the Bank of £3339 17s sd. Receipts since last meeting amounted to £4099 18s 6d. Accounts passed totalled £1337 14s 3d.
The county chairman, Mr McGregor, was appointed delegate to represent the County at the New Zealand County Council’s Conference to be held in Wellington on July 26. Councillor Reid was appointed to attend the Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigades’ annual function at the Fire Station on Saturday, May 6.
The question of the legislation of the deviation to the Ahiaruhe Bridge was left to the county engineer.
The Wairarapa Electric Power Board was granted permission to erect power poles on the county road to enable the power service to be extended to Mr G. H. Speedy’s property. It was resolved that protective river work be carried into effect at Mr Harold Renall’s property near the Kokotau Bridge. It was decided to remetal the Wainuioru Valley Road as early as. possible, so that it will be in good order before the winter months set in.
The making of stock fords at Pahava and Anderson’s Creek bridges was decided upon, the work to be put in hand at once.
It was decided that a plan be prepared for a 4-foot culvert to replace the present structure on the Flat Point Road and that a deviation be made on each side of the culvert.
Considerable discussion ensued regarding the framing of the current year’s estimates and it was decided that the same general rate as last year be struck.
After discussion it was resolved tha plans be prepared for the extension of buildings at the county yards, Carterton, for the housing of the county plant. ______
