GREYTOWN

EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) A most successful euchre tournament and dance, organised by the Wairarapa Pipe Band Ladies’ Committee, was held in Morison’s Bush Hall on Monday evening. The music was supplied by Mrs Rodgers and Mr Knowles and extras were played by Miss V. Irwin (piano), Mr Peter Fisher (pipes), and Mr Mclntosh (piano-accordion). Mr Stan Hall carried out the duties of M.C. A cushion which was raffled was won by Mrs Swanson. The supper was provided by the members of the Ladies’ Committee. Late Mr Horace Hawke. There was a large attendance of returned soldiers and friends at the funeral of the late .Horace Hawke which took place at the Greytown Cemetery yesterday afternoon. The coffin was draped with the Union Jack and the deceased’s war medals and hat were placed on it. The Returned Soldiers headed the cortege into the cemetery and formed a guard of honour to the graveside. The Rev. E. J. Rich took the service at the house and at the cemetery. The pall-bearers were Messrs G. Duff, R. Clarke, F. Ridgley, J. Herod, G. Robinson, A. Bicknell, all of whom are returned soldiers. At the conclusion of the service the “Last Post” was sounded by Mr A. Bicknell who came from Wellington to pay tribute to his comrade. Among the many beautiful floral tributes were wreaths from the Greytown Dairy Co., Battersea settlers and the Greytown Diggers. Personals. Miss R. Bouzaid left today by air for Picton. Mrs E. Richard has returned from Wellington. Mrs Drummond Senr., has left for a holiday to be spent at Waikanae. Diggers’ Market. A special feature of the Diggers’ Market on Friday at Greytown will be the doll stall which will be under the direction of the Diggers’ friend, Matron Higginson.
