WATER SHORTAGE
POSITION IN FEATHERSTON. LIGHT RAIN BRINGS SOME RELIEF. I (“Times-Age” Special.) Water is in short supply at Featherston, following on the prolonged dry spell. At present there is very little water in the creek supplying the reservoir; which, as a consequence, has been empty for the past fortnight. A certain amount of water is' going straight through the reservoir into the service pipes, and this is sufficient to meet the needs of most residents, though the position necessitates the use of water for absolute necessities only. From 15 to 20 residents on the higher levels are not so fortunate, however, as they have been compelled to carry water for household use for the last week or so. There does not appear to be any great danger of the creek drying up altogether, and some relief has been afforded by rain which fell in the hills last night, while in Featherston itself this morning light rain was experienced for about an hour and there was some prospect of more falling.
