CALEDONIAN SOCIETY
SIXTY’THIRD ANNUAL REPORT I PAST YEAR’S ACTIVITIES. PROPOSAL TO RE-FORM ■PIPE BAND I “Again we have experienced quite a successful year, the success beingattributable to the whole-hearted support given the society’s activities by the members generally,” states the sixty-third annual report of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society. After referring to the attendance at. meetings of directors the report proceeds: “No nominations have been received for new directors on your board. The retiring directors, therefore, are eligible for re-election. Membership. — The society has again suffered loss by removal, through death, of many of our former office-bearers and active members. We record with regret the loss of our late director, Mr James Walker, a life member of the society, who had been a very valuable member of the directorate for many years. Social entertainments. —During the year one Ingleside open to the public was held in the Municipal Hall, and two social gatherings for members only were held. These gatherings were most favourably commented upon and proved a real social success. “Sports.—The annual gathering was held on the Park Oval, Masterton, on Monday, January 2, 1939, and proved to be a very successful gathering. Record entries were received for all juvenile dancing events, which was very pleasing, and judging by the keenness displayed by the entrants, these classes will be keenly contested at future meetings. The cycle and amateur athletic events were a great success and we extend our sincere appreciation to the Mastertqn Cycling and Amateur Athletic Associations for their generous assistance in the running of these events on Sports Day and also for catering for entries prior to the meeting. “Re-forming of Wairarapa Caledonian Pipe Band. —The directors have seriously considered suggesting to members and the public of the Wairarapa the advisability of re-forming a Wairarapa Caledonian Society Pipe Band.... Ladies’ committee. —This report would be incomplete if reference were not made to the valuable assistance rendered by the ladies’ committee during the year. The society is indeed fortunate in this connection, and I desire to express the sincere thanks of the directors for the untiring labours of those ladies who officiate at our social functions. In conclusion, I wish to sincerely thank my directors who have so willingly assisted me during the past year, thus considerably lightening by duties. I earnestly hope that the society will be encouraged in the year that it has now entered,” The report is signed by Mr J. \B. Mac Lean, President. The retiring directors, eligible for reelection, are Messrs J. W. Colquhoun, J. W. Henderson, E. D. McLachlan, J. J. Hunter, J. A. E. Kerslake, W. G. Milne, I. D. Cameron, W. J. Campbell, G. Beecroft, C. A. Burling, D. A. Pickering, R. McKenzie, R. W. Coutts, J. Jenkin, J. McKenzie, W. S. L. Dickson. In accordance with the rules, Mr J. B.
