RUGBY CARNIVAL

MASTERTON PARK OVAL. ENTERTAINING PROGRAMME ARRANGED. The Memorial Park Lighting Committee has now made detailed arrangements for the Rugby Carnival on Saturday week and the following programme has been finally accepted: Footballers’ Procession. At 1 p.m. past and present players (all grades) are invited to assemble it the Memorial Park for a procession through Queen Street to the Park Oval. Members of the Referees’ Association and St John Ambulance Brigade are also asked to take part, players and referees to wear football togs and the Ambulance Brigadesmen to wear uniform. Decorated bicycles ridden by school-children will also take part in the procession which will be led by the Wairarapa College Pipe Band. Sports Programme. The sports programme will include: Senior, junior, thirds, fourths and schools, 100yds and 50yds championships; football club relay (open) of 4 per team and 110yds each runner; past players (over 35 years), 25yds sprint: referees’ sprint, 50yds; Rugby Unibn Management Committee, 50yds sprint; footballers’ cycle race; long jump; putting the shot; standing football throw; directional football throw; club tug-of-war (4 aside) for seniors and juniors only; inter-club rowing race on Lake A feature of the afternoon’s programme will be the finish of the harriers’ 3-mile race and a variety of side-shows will be conducted in aid of the funds. Entry fees have been fixed at 6d per entry, excepting for the directional football throw, which will be only 3d. Post entries will be accepted, although early entries to the secretary, Mr S. G. Lamb, Box 105, are preferred. A meeting was held last night of members of the Masterton, Red Star and Old Boys’ clubs to advise players of the arrangements for the carnival.’ A sum of one guinea was donated for the/club which has most members in the procession provided that they number more than 25.
