Well known as the only remaining member of the garrison of the Pukekohe East Church, which was attacked by Waikato Maoris in 1863, Captain Joseph Corbett Scott, Epsom, Auckland, will celebrate his 101st birthday on Saturday. Captain Scott, who is remarkably active, came to New Zealand with his parents in 1859. when the family settled in Pukekohe East. A few years after the attack Captain Scott disposed of his East Pukekohe farm and took up about 150 acres on the north-cast slope of Pukekohe Hill, which he soon developed into the model farm in the district. In 1875 he married Miss Helen Corbett, third daughter of Dr Corbett. Tuakau.
