WEDDINGS
YOUNG—PAYTON. A wedding or widespread interest in the Wairarapa took place at St. Matthew’s Church last evening the contracting parties being Nancy, twin daughter of Mr and Mrs J. H. Payton, “Brookfield;” Masterton, and David, eldest son of Mrs T. Young and the late Mr Young, of Wellington. The service was performed by the Rev. E. J. Rich. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a plain white satin frock with an attractive half-moon frill from shoulder to shoulder. ■ The same effect was carried out on the top of the veil above the orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of all white flowers and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaids, Misses Betty Payton, Lois Hosking, Mary Logan and Nan Rishworth were frocked alike in green satin bodices with very full white tulle skirts with sprays of green leaves falling from the waist. Their bouquets were of green and white. The best man was Mr J. J. Payton and the groomsmen were Messrs Peter Rishworth, John Coom and Bill Littlejohn. During the signing of the register, the girls of St Matthew’s School gave two much appreciated vocal items. The reception was held in the Arcade Hall, the bride’s mother wearing a blue-grey paisley embroidered frock with hat and bouquet to tone. Mrs Young wore a wine coloured frock with bouquet to match. The large number of guests present were received by Mrs J. H. Pay ton and Mrs Young. Several toasts were honoured, that of the “bride and bridegroom” being proposed in a most able manner by the Rev. E. J. Rich. The gathering was a most enjoyable one, the bride and bridegroom being warmly congratulated and wishes extended to them for their future prosperity and happiness. After the wedding breakfast a dance’ was held, being continued till a late hour. When they left on their honeymoon in the North the bride wore a smart green tweed costume. Their future home will be at Mount Bruce. COOPER—TAYLFORTH. The wedding took place at Knox Church last evening of Irene Violet, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs R. Taylforth, of Kaituna, and Norman Archibald, only son of Mr and Mrs A. T. Cooper, of Rongokokako. The Rev D. McNeur officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a deep cream satin frock cut on Victorian lines and falling away to a full train. Her embroidered veil was in the same colour as her dress. She carried a bouquet in colours of white and cream. The bridesmaids, Misses J. Taylforth (chief), sister of the bride, E. Taylforth, and D. Dagg, cousins of the bride, wore floral organdie Victorian frocks with frilly bottoms and sleeves. They each carried floral posies. The best man was Mr N. Hansen and the groomsmen were Messrs J. Suter and P. Foster. . A reception was held in the Municipal Social Hall, where the many guests were received by Mrs Taylforth wearing a saxe blue frock with shoulder spray to tone and by Mrs Tilly, an aunt of the bridegroom, wearing a black gown with fur coat. The bride travelled in a storm blue frock, camel hair coat with London tan handbag and accessories. The guests were entertained at a dance, following the reception, the music being supplied by Jack Mackay’s Novelty Syncopatorg.
