WOMEN’S DIVISION

CARTERTON BRANCH MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Carterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its seventh annual meeting in St. Andrew’s Hall, which was beautifully decorated with autumn flowers. The election of officers for the coming year resulted: —President, Mrs E. Allen (re-elected); secretary, Miss M. Thompson (re-elected); treasurer, Mrs A. Stretton; vice-presidents, Mesdames J. Snell, K. Reid, J. Standen, H. Renall, P. Hodder and Miss Wilson. The retiring treasurer, Miss J. Anderson and tea secretary, Miss Arcus, were the recipients of small gifts from the president in appreciation of their valuable services in the past. ■ A motion of sympathy was passed to Mrs A. Daysh and . Mrs Carswell in their recent bereavements.. The points prizes for the year were awarded to the following:—Mrs Couper for best blooms and shrubs; Mrs H. Peters, best story; Mrs W. Abbot, novelty competition; Mrs J. Taplin, cooking. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames H. Ordish, G. Hart, R. Latham and Miss Arcus. MEETING OF MASTERTON BRANCH. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The annual meeting of the Masterton branch of the Women’s Division of the N.Z.F.U. was held in the Rest Room, King Street, yesterday afternoon. Mrs K. Groves presided over a good attendance of members. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year;—-President, Mrs K. Groves, vice-presidents, Mesdames T. R. Barrer and D. A. Cameron; hon secretary, Mrs M. Rue; hon treasurer, Mrs Alex Donald; committee, Mesdames A. Ross, E. J. Wright, W. Taylor, F. J. Pike, C. Burling, C. H. McKenzie, A. B. Cottle; advisory committee, Mesdames C. Burling and A. Ross; delegates to Provincial Council, Mesdames A. C. Gawith and Mrs C. C. Jackson. Mesdames Barrer and Gawith were appointed delegates to the Dominion Conference to be held in Wellington in July next. Many subjects of vital interest to the division were freely discussed. On the motion of Mrs E. Cameron a hearty vote of thanks was tendered to Mrs Groves for her untiring devotion to the interests of the branch, and to all those who had assisted in the various activities during the yast year. Handsome shoulder sprays made by Mrs K. Stewart were presented to mesdames K. Groves (president), Alex Donald (treasurer) and Mrs Rue (secretary) in appreciation of their services to the Division.

The meeting was Drought to a close by a dainty afternoon tea, provided by the president.
