Mr and Mrs C. W. Dickason, Short Street, Masterton, will leave by the “Rangitata” for England on Thursday. Mr F. Long, an ex-pupil of Wairarapa College, leaves Auckland next week to join the Air Force at Home. He has a five years’ commission. The death occurred at Konini on Thursday of Mr Thomas Edward Hastings Scanlon, third son. of the late Mr Michael Scanlon, at the age of 45 years. The Hon D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, left Wellington for the South Island by the in-ter-island express steamer on Thursday night. He will return to Wellington on Monday. Mr R. C. Stanton, of New Plymouth, is on a short visit to Masterton, accompanied by his daughter. Miss Carol Stanton. They are the guests of Mrs Rue, Renall Street, and Mrs Miller, Herbert Street, respectively. Mr Stanton will be remembered as having been for some lime in charge of the Municipal Gas Department. The Rev Maurice Cocks has been appointed examining chaplain to the diocese of Christchurch, and the Rev H. F. Harding has been appointed chaplain to the Community of the Sacred Name. The former position was held by the Very Rev Dean Julius and the later by the Rev F. R. Rawle. who has retired. The death occurred at Wanganui on Sunday, at the age of 46 years, of Mr Gorden Husler, youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs George Husler, who were former residents of Pongaroa. Mr Gordon Husler was the uncle of Mrs George Watson, Albert Street. Pahiatua. Mr Husler had been in indifferent health for the past two or three years After spending a few months in England, Sir Stephen Allen, Morrinsville, formerly Administrator of Samoa, returned to Auckland by the Trojan Star. The main purpose of Sir Stephen’s visit was to accompany his son. Mr P. R. H. Allen, who is entering the Navy as a cadet. Sir Stephen will probably visit England again at the end of May.

The following teaching appointments to schools in its district have been made by the Wellington Education Board:—Miss M. Ross, sole teacher, Tinui, from Wangaehu. Mr S. Slocombe, secondary assistant, Fcathei - ston, from the Southland district. Mr 19. S. Rust, headmaster, Seatoun, from Masterton West. Miss M. E. Allan, assistant, Lansdowne, from Canterbury. Mr N. Rankin, headmaster, Gladstone, from Rai Valley.
