CORRESPONDENCE
COMPLAINT AGAINST CYCLISTS.
(The Editor). Sir, —A typical example of the laxity of traffic control in Masterton was exemplified in Queen Street this afternoon. And this time motorists were not to blame; cyclists caused the trouble, as they do so frequently. Almost every verandah post in Queen Street supported bicycles, not only the kerb side, but also on the pavement side. In consequence the room allowed pedestrians was very limited, and I noticed an elderly gentleman pitch forward to the footpath as a result of touching the front wheel of a bicycle. It swung round and the gentleman was thrown heavily to the ground, receiving a nasty blow and a dangerous shock. This is not an isolated case, Sir, for the manner in which bicycles are carelessly left in Queen Street is disgraceful on any normal day of the week, quite apart from a busy day, such a today. Why doesn’t the Council watch cyclists as well as motorists? There can be no excuse for the present laxity. I am, etc., . “MOTORIST.” Masterton, April 6.
