MASTERTON Y.M.C.A.
MEETING OF DIRECTORS. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Y.M.C.A. was held in the rooms, on Tuesday night when the following members were present: Messrs W. A. Clarke, presiclpnt (in the chair), E. IVL Hodder, E. G. Coddington, H. L. Pearse; G. Masters, G. R. Ececroft, E. Lyttle, E. J. Coleman, J. D. O'Connor, A. Talton, J. D. Ross and the general secretary (Mr D. McKee Wright). The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr W. A. Clarke, (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs E. M. Hodder and Mr E. J. Coleman; treasurer, Mr H. L. Pearse; honorary secretary, Mr E. G. Coddingtpn. The election also took place of nine standing committees, to be responsible fof the many and varying phases of the work for the year. The President extended a welcome, on behalf of the Board to the newlyelccted member, Mr J. D. O’Connor. The General Secretary’s report for the month of March showed that, largely on account of the disorganisation due to the association's participation in the recent combined Carnival, the norma! functioning of the work had been somewhat held up. The contest for the Morrison Swimming Shield, for boys under 15 years of age. had been held during the month, the winner being Fred Sexton, who gained 65 points out of a possible total of 75. Although the final figures were not yet avajia|?)p, there was every indication that the Carnival had been a distinct success. The demands on the association’s building had been particularly heavy during March. The total attendances at association functions were 422. Eightyone meetings had been held by outside organisations, with attendances totalling 1507, making the total of persons attending the buildings during the month 1929.
Accounts to the amount of £l7 4s lOd were passed. The Directors extended thanks to the Ladies' Auxiliary, for new curtains supplied and for the making of covers for certain of the equipment; to the Masterton Trust lands Trust, for an additional grant; and to Mr R. Barnes, for judging the swimming contest. The question of re-covering the billiard tables and renewing certain of the gymnasium apparatus was referred to the Building and Equipment Committee for report.
Although the increased activities of the Association will probably tax the accommodation to the limit, it was decided to make every effort possible to provide suitable practice times for certain outside clubs that had used the rooms previously.! The resignation of Mr C. E. Jones from the directorate was accepted with regret.
It was decided to make the second Tuesday in the month the regular meeting night for this year. Other matters of detail occupied the board until a late hour, the meeting terminating at 11.15 p.m.
