NAVY LEAGUE

BRANCH AT KOPUARANGA. CHILDREN’S SUCCESSFUL EFFORT ("Times-Age” Special.) An interesting and enjoyable time was spent in the grounds of the Kopuaranga School on Friday when, after their lessons were finished for the day, the pupils held a “shop day” for the purpose of raising funds to establish a Navy League branch at their school.

Mr R. Darroch, secretary of the Wellington branch of the Navy League, who was welcomed by Peter Evans, on behalf of the school, gave an interesting'address, explaining the origin and aims of the Navy League. Mr Darroch also congratulated the children and their teacher, Miss Cave, on their enterprise in raising money for their subscriptions in this way. After a vote of thanks had been proposed by Pearl Cottle, who also thanked Mrs C. C Jackson for the help she had given, those present were entertained at afternoon tea. During tea the singing of two Maori songs, by Georgina Manihera, was much enjoyed by the visitors. The amount taken at the two wellstocked stalls of produce was more than enough to pay the Navy League subscriptions of all the children for the current year.
