It is stated at Marlborough House that Queen Mary, who has been suffering from a cold, is better. The Hon. P. Fraser, Minister of Education, will return to Wellington from the South Island today. Mr A. E. Bate, late secretary of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. leaves tomorrow for Auckland.

The Hawaiian swimmer Nakama sailed for home yesterday on board the Mariposa from Sydney. Mr W. R. Nicol has been appointed secretary-manager of the Masterton Methodist Children’s Home, in succession to Mr A. E. Bate.
The Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, who left Wellington for Auckland on Thursday night to attend a demonstration of earth-moving machinery at the Whenuapai aerodrome, will return to Wellington on Monday. An announcement that Messrs D. O. Williams and H. J. Kelliher had been reappointed to the directorate of the Bank of New Zealand for a further term as from today was made yesterday by the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash.
Following on the resignation of Mr C. E. Jones, from the management committee of the Methodist Children s Home, Mr George Whitlock, of Masterton, has been appointed to the vacancy. Mr Jones has gone to Dunedin:
The appointment of Mr. A. R. Entrican, A.A.S.E., A.M.1.C.E., engineer in forest products, State Forest Service, as Director of Forestry, was announced yesterday by the Commissioner of State Forests, Mr. Langstone. He succeeds Mr A. D. McGavock, who has retired after 46 years’ service.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand announces the following executive appointments: —Mr. E. C. Fussell, who has been secretary of the bank since 1934, has been appointed assistant to the governors. Mi- W. F. Airey, assist-ant-secretary, succeeds Mr Fussell as secretary. Mr A. Ross has been appointed assistant chief cashier. Mr R. R. Millbourne, chairman of directors of Tozer, Kemsley and Millbourn, Limited, London, died at sea on March 30, following a heart attack, according to cabled advice received by the company’s New Zealand representatives. Mr Millbourne, who was well known in New Zealand, was returning to England after a visit to South Africa.
The Hon. F. Langstone, Minister of Lands, who will leave New Zealand next week to represent the . Government at this year’s conference of the International Labour Office in Geneva, and Mrs Langstone, were the guests of the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, and of members of Cabinet and their wives, at a farewell gathering in the Prime Minister’s office yesterday. In extending their best wishes to the departing Minister, his colleagues presented him with a pair of field glasses and Mrs. Langstone with a pearl necklace. : The appointment of Mr. R. G. Macrmorran as Under-Secretary for Lands in succession to Mr. W. Robertson, 1.5.0., was announced yesterday. Mr. Macmorran’s former position of Assistant Under-Secretary for Lands, has been filled by the appointment of Mr. T. Pound, Second Assistant Undersecretary. The announcement of these two appointments was the last official act of Mr Robertson, who retired yesterday after 47 years’ service. An official farewell was accorded Mr Robertson in the afternoon in the Native Affairs committee room in Parliament Buildings.
