A street appeal made in Dunedin yesterday by the council of the Dunedin Scottish societies and supported by a community sing on behalf of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment, realise! approximately £3OO. This, together with donations to the fund recently opened, brings the total collections to £507. Power Air Force Stations. To secure a continuity of supply of electric power at the Royal New Zealand Air Force aerodromes at Hobsonville and Whenuapai, which are expected to be very heavy users when present development schemes are completed, it is proposed that they should be reticulated from an independent 11,000volt power line. The Government is now negotiating with the Waitemata Electric Power Board regarding the proposal, which will involve a capital expenditure of about £lO,OOO. This amount would have to be raised by the board by a loan which would be additional to the estimated loan expenditure of £50,000 in the coming year. “Wanted—£3oo.” After expressing her appreciation of the support given the scheme in the last four years, the headmistress (Mrs C. L. Young) said at the opening of the new swimming bath at St Margaret’s College, Christchurch. that there was one thing more she wanted. "And that is £3OO before this function is over to clear the debt,” she added. She said she had received a gift of £5O and another of £25, and to assist other parents, old girls, or friends who might wish to contribute promise cards would be distributd. "We have pencils available and a box for the cards," Mrs Young said. "It would be a great pleasure to have the debt removed this afternoon.” She was rewarded with a number of promises which, with the gifts mentioned, reduced the debt to about £lBO, and the return of other! cards is expected.
