BRADFORD TOPS. PRICES REPORTED TO BE FIRM. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, March 30. Bradford tops are quoted as follows: —Merinos, 70’s, 26d; 64’s, 241 d; 60’s, Crossbreds: 58’s, 21d; 56's, 19d; 50’s, 17d;* 46's, 161 d (nominal); 44’s, 16£d (nominal). The market is firm, but very quiet. LONDON SALES. STEADIER TENDENCY REPORTED. (Received This Day, 1.0 p.m.) LONDON, March 30. At the wool sales 8374 bales were offered including 3505 New Zealand and 6631 bales were sold. There was a moderate selection. There was keen competition for good wools but inferiors were frequently withdrawn. New Zealand greasy crossbred, Opou. brought 83d to 93d; greasy crossbred lambs, Opou, B£d. Throughout the series 109,700 bales were offered and 93,500 sold, including 49,000 bales New Zealand. Twenty-five thousand bales of Australian and 12,500 bales of New Zealand wool were held over. Competition generally was well sustained and the tendency throughout was generally steadier. Compared with the close of the last series. Greasy Merinos were five per cent dearer, scoured was unchanged, crossbreds unchanged, and coarser wools five per cent dearer.
Messrs Levin and Co Ltd have received the following cable from their London agents, dated March 30: “The auctions closed here today with a good tone. All sections of the trade are. buying, particularly Bradford. Russia is also active. Compared with the opening rates, there is no change in the market generally. The total quantity offered 109,650 bales, sold 93,500 bales, carried forward 38,000 bales including 12,500 bales from New Zealand.” FINAL WANGANUI SALE. A DECLINE IN PRICES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, March $O. Heav" passings for seedy and inferior iambs’ wool and a decline on Auckland values of about one penny marked the final Wanganui wool sale of the season tonight. Fleece wool showed a decline of a farthing to a half-penny, and a similar recession was shown in prices for bellies and pieces. Good lambs’ wool was at late rates.
The official report of the combined brokers states that there was an offering of approximately 23,800 bales. All sections of the trade were represented, pat to one farthing cheaper. AverGood well-skirted wools were from age crossbred showed a decline of a farthing to a half-penny, and in some v cases three-farthings compared with recent sales. This also applies to bellies and pieces. Good lambs were about par and seedy and inferior, of which there was a big offering, were jd to Id lower. Bradford were the chief buyers, with the Continent operating on ’ suitable lots. 'Other sections were quiet . The bulk of the offering comprised, heavy conditioned and seedy wools..
