MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB
ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the annual report of the Masterton Miniature Rifle Club, which is signed by H. K. Smith (president) and G. King (secretary):—The committee has pleasure in presenting the following report for the season 1938. Despite a lowered membership finances have been carefully administered and a small profit is shown over the season’s workings. As promised in last year’s report considerable improvements were made in the target lighting, rifles and equipment, and no major expenditure is anticipated this year.
All members are' cordially thanked for their co-operation and enthusiasm, and intending new members can be assured of helpful advice and tuition in the most fascination of sport, miniature rifle shooting. The championship of the club was won by P. Russell after some very keen shooting, whilst .Mrs King was successful in winning the ladies’ championship. The B and junior grades were won by W. Dornan and L. H. Carter respectively. D. P. Donald, shooting consistently throughout the season proved the winner of both the individual team’s shield, and the season's aggregate. In the inter club’s team shooting contest, our A team failed to retain the Shield, being, beaten by the formidable South Featherston team by two points over the entire series, but the Johnson Shield was won by the B team. -
We are pleased to report that the Wairarapa championship has at last been won by a Masterton, shot, in the person of B. R. Jenkins, who put up a very fine performance. The special silver cup for the highest lady scorer at this rifle meeting, being taken by Mrs King. The following members gained representative honours in the Wairarapa teams, and acquitted themselves creditably: Mrs King, D. P. Donald, H. V. Donald, H. K. Smith, H. King, P. Russell, B. R. Jenkins, J. W. Gurtin, R. V. Mason, and F. Seward. We extend thanks to all donors of trophies, to Mr G. Malmo for use of his premises, the Press for publicity, Mr E. R. Rogers for auditing' the books, and to all officials for their untiring work throughout the year. In conclusion, we trust that with an increased membership the season 1939 will be both successful and enjoyable.
