LARGEST PEACETIME GRANT PASSED BV U.S.A. TOTAL OF 513 MILLION DOLLARS. SENATOR'S WARNING ABOUT TAKING SIDES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. WASHINGTON, March 27. Without a dissenting vote the Senate today passed the War Department's largest peacetime appropriation. A further 13,000,000 dollars was added, making the total 513,188,172 dollars.
Senator Lewis warned the United Slates that it was about to “make the blunder of taking sides in foreign conflicts.” Senator King predicted that Herr Hiller and Signor Mussolini would crack up. All the democracies need to do, he said, was to await the happy day. President Roosevelt laid before the House the supplementary naval estimates asking for- a further 19,000,000 dollars.
