USE OF TRACTORS

LIABILITY OF FARMERS. The Provincial Secretary of the Farmers’ Union (Mi- James Watson) has received advice from Dominion Headquarters to the effect that the only action necessary in regard to farm tractors is the fitting of “E” plates to the vehicle at a cost of 2s, and the payment of third party insurance at the rate of 10s per annum. Registration is required, but is,free of charge. This subject was discussed at the last meeting of Provincial Executive when it was decided to obtain a definition of the farmer’s liability in the event of a farm tractor being compelled to take to roads or highways between one portion of the farm and another.

The discussion was the sequel to a recent Masterton Court cast when a farmer was convicted and ordered to pay costs for allowing an unregistered tractor to proceed along a short length of a Main Highway between one portion of his farm and another.
