PERSONAL

The Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, and the Hon. W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, returned to Wellington from Westpoit by aeroplane today. Mr D. McMichael, formerly of’Masterton, and latterly manager of the Mayfair Theatre, Napier, has been appointed to a similar position at the Prince Edward Theatre at Auckland. There being no quorum because of the absence through sickness of two of the Judges, the Court of Appeal did not sit in Wellington yesterday. The court was to have consisted of the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers), Mr Justice Ostler and Mr. Justice Smith. The Chief Justice and Mr Justice Smith are both suffering from colds and are confined to their homes. Commissioner F. H. Adams, who for the past four years has been Territorial Commissioner of the Salvation Army for New Zealand, has been recalled to London, cable advice havingbeen received to this effect. Commissioner Adams will in all probability leave the Dominion about the middle of June, and*will be accompanied by Mrs Adams. In London he will represent New Zealand at the meeting of the High Council, which is being called to elect a new general in succession to General Evangeline Booth.
