PIRINOA
ANNUAL MEETING OF GOLF CLUB. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Pirinoa Golf Club held in the Memorial Hall on Saturday evening. M- R. McDougalt presided. The balance sheet showed the club to be in a good financial position. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —President, Mr Guy Gillies; secretary and treasurer, Mr D. Jones (re-elected); club captain and handicapper, Mr R. McDougall; ladies’ committee, Mesdames Carter and McKenzie and Miss Cock; green’s committee, Miss Cock and Messrs McMaster, Jones, McDougall, Tikao and S. Hall. It was decided to open the season on Saturday, April 1. The subscription fee was fixed at the same as last year. The matter of arranging the rolling of the greens with a heavy roller was left in the hands of the club captain. The club captain reported that the fairways were in splendid order. Several matters were brought up and discussed and prospects auger well for a most successful season. On the motion of Mr Trevor Hume a hearty vote of thanks, which was carried by acclamation, was accorded Messrs McDougall and Jones, the former for the use of his properly and the latter for the able manner in which he had guided the affairs of the club. The final of the Swainson Cup was played at the weekend when M. Herangi and D. Tikao defeated S. Thomas and G. Munro.
KAHUTARA RIVER BOARD.
QUESTION OF OPENING LAKE
A special meeting of the Kahutara River Board will be held within the next few days to consider an application by a contractor in respect of the opening the outlet of the lake. The prospects for a successful opening at the present time do not look bright as there is very little water in the lower lake. Unless conditions change within the next few days there is very little prospect of opening the outlet for the next few weeks. Personal Items. Mr W. Hume was a visitor to the district for a few days. Mrs Chas. Busch,’who was on a visit to Auckland, has returned home. Mr Len Lovegrove, who was visiting bis parents has returned to Herekino, North Auckland. Messrs Suce and Carter were weekend visitors from Dannevirke. Tennis. Playing in the final of the McDougall Cup recently M. Herangi (rec. 10) beat N. Hume (rec. 15), 61/54. Farewell Social. A social evening was tendered Mi Tom Bubb at Whatarangi on Friday when he was presented with a .case of pipes by the residents. Mr Bubb will reside near Martinborough, where he has acquired a farm.
