WEST SCHOOL
SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL ON SATURDAY.
RECEIPTS TOTAL ABOUT £9O.
In spite of the unfavourable change in the weather on Saturday afternoon, the carnival at the Masterton West School proved a most successful one, just under £9O being raised. Well laden stalls were quickly relieved of their goods and other attractions in the way of miniature golf, chain stepping, and other competitions found ready favour with the public while a concert arranged by Mr Boyes, assisted by Misses Brisco and Howes attracted a crowded house at all sessions. The school committee wish to thank the many donors of goods, etc., including parents of the Side School for their wonderful response. The committee was also indebted to the Wairarapa College girls who attended with the intention of giving a drill display, though the rain prevented this from being put on. The winners of the competitions were: E. Wadham, box of tea; J. Stewart, peas in bottle; E. Rogers, box of apples; Mrs Harman, box of chocolates: Mrs Henderson, electric toaster; D. Morris, box of cigarettes; Ngaire Welch, box of chocolates; I. R. E. Batty, doll; Pam Shearer, length of string; Mrs E. Watson, iced cake; Mrs Marshall, box of chocolates; A. Corskie, chain stepping; J. Gray and Max Rogers, height of pole (30ft), 29ft lOin. Winners of prizes who have not yet received same are requested to communicate with the headmaster, Mr Rust.
