PRESS STUDS

SOME PRACTICAL POINTS. Press-studs on washable garments should always be fastened before the garments are put through the wringer. This prevents them from being flattened and from damaging the surface of the rollers . When press-studs are being stitched to material the socket halves should be attached first and rubbed well over with French chalk. They should then be pressed carefully against the portion of material to which the stud halves are to be sewn, so that the chalk will mark the exact places for them. Buttonhole-stitching should be used for attaching press-studs. It fastens them securely and gives a neat flat finish to the work. If press-studs that are in good enough order to be used again are unpicked from old garments, the two halves should be snapped together as soon as they are unpicked. This keeps’ the right halves together and saves time.
