SALLOW SKIN

A SERIOUS BEAUTY BLEMISH. The main thing to remember when sighing for. beauty is that you must do something about it. It is not the slightest use wishing. It is the person who does something who ultimately achieves success. Therefore, make up your mind right now that you are no longer going to wish that you were beautiful, but that you are going to be beautiful. And the first action in this new beauty programme is that you banish many of your blemishes. The most serious beauty blemish is a sallow skin. Why these are tolerated I do not know. You were not born with a yellowish tinge in your skin, so why acquire one in .later life? Sallowness comes from within, and therefore internal treatment is called for.

Usually the diet is at fault, and the first thing you must do is to ask yourself how much water do you drink a day. It must be never less than four glasses, with a possibility of six. And then there is your diet. If this is correct there will be no necessity for medicines, and constipation will be banished.

For breakfast take oatmeal or porridge or cereal. Bacon and eggs, wholemeal bread, and orange juice. For lunch, green vegetables, wholemeal bread, salads, fish, stewed fruits or fresh fruits.

For dinner, soups or fish, light meat, stewed onions, spinach, lettuce, prunes, and figs. At least two glasses of water should be drunk between meals.

Insufficient sleep is also another method of acquiring a sallow skin, therefore, make an early-to-bed resolution and stick to it.

Each night the face should be washed with warm water, and a light lather of soap spread over the skin. This should be massaged into the skin with a stiff rubber sponge, finally rinsing with plenty of cold water. Lightlydry the face and then smear with a layj, er of nourishing cream, and pat dr gently slap it into the face for five minutes.

In the morning rinse the face with plenty of cold water to which has been added a little eau de cologne or two or three drops of spirits of camphor. If the skin is oily as well as sallow, once a week- indulge in an egg-mask. Separate the white from the yolk of an egg. Beat the white into a froth and paint it over the face with a pastry brush. This mask is an astringent, and will help counteract the excessive oiliness.
