WOMEN TEACHERS

MASTERTON BRANCH.

ANNUAL MEETING’ OF MEMBERS

At the annual meeting of the Masterton branch of the N.Z. Women Teachers’ Association. Miss Tankersley presided over a representative gathering. The annual report and balance sheet were presented. The following officers were elected: President, Miss M. Wiggins; vice-presi-dents, Miss I. Tankersley, Mrs A. Fouhy; secretary, Miss M. Admore; treasurer, Miss L. Coleman; committee, Mrs I. Dodds, Misses J. Sellar, Hogg. E. Calwell, Goodall, J. Rayne, Kitchener. Supper was provided by the executive.

The following report gives an outline of the year’s activities: —“We have followed the policy of catering for the professional and social needs of our members so our general meetings have been varied. There were six executive meetings which dealt with routine business and matters concerning the welfare of teachers and children. Delegates attended the Dominion Conference held in Wellington last May and gave a report on proceedings. The branch was requested to send reports on remits concerning the School Journal and infant room equipment. Following the course taken by Mr and Mrs Mountjoy on “Verse speaking” last May, the branch held a study group on Monday afternoons until October and during one meeting gave a short programme covering the range of work in primary schools. One of the most important meetings was the open meeting held in conjunction with the W.D.F.U. at which Miss Elsie Andrews spoke about P.P.W.A. and the conference in 1940. Miss A. K. Edwards, of Wairarapa College, spoke on modern trends in physical education. Other speakers who had recently returned after interesting , experiences abroad were. Misses Marten, M. McGregor and C. D. Wilson. A pleasing feature is the participation and regular attendance of our honorary members who are so welcome at our gatherings; Visits paid by the members of the Eketahuna branch have been most welcome and will, we hope, be continued. Our thanks are due to the West School Committee for the use of the building in which we held meetings. We wish to thank Miss .Betty Coleman, who has kindly collaborated with us several times. We wish to thank the Masterton Play Readers for the loan of .books for our play-reading evening.”
