“When I say that the scenery in the South Island cannot be beaten I am not saying it just to please you,” said Mr Ringer, a representative of the Auckland Automobile Association, in addressing the Southland Association. “In the South Island there are many spots the beauty of which I am sure cannot be equalled anywhere in the world. There is some fine scenery in the North Island too but if for instance, Ruapehu was placed amidst the grandeur of the Southern Alps, it would not look so impressive.”
