“TIMES-AGE” STAFFS

FIRST ANNUAL PICNIC. ENJOYABLE GATHERING AT CARTER’S BUSH. There was a very large attendance at the first annual picnic of the combined staffs of the "Wairarapa TimesAge” held at Carter’s Bush yesterday afternoon in fine weather, the gathering including the wives and children, as- well as friends of the members of the various staffs. A bus, and also many private cars, conveyed the picnic party to Carter’s Bush, where .an athletic programme was arranged, much enthusiasm being shown in connection with the events, the novelty races providing plenty of fun for the spectators. Mr J. Baybutt was judge and Mr B. Iveson starter. Swimming cricket and rounders were indulged in. and altogether a thoroughly enjoyable time was spent. The arrangements were in the hands of a committee, the members of which were untiring in their efforts to see that everyone had an enjoyable time. Hot water, tea, sugar and milk was supplied free. Community singing, led by a happy band of children, was a feature of the trip in the bus to and from the picnic grounds. The following were the results of the events: —

Mooney (Wellington) 1; R. A. Wilton 2, K. Forrest 3. Single ladies’ race: Miss V. Watson 1, Miss I Roys 2, Miss Dale 3. Married men’s race: G. Lawton 1, L. King 2, M. Rawliris 3. Married ladies’ race: Mrs A. Southey 1, Mrs Lawton 2, Mrs,Rawlins 3. Ladies’ staff race: Miss Watson 1, Miss M. Palmer 2, Miss J. Riley 3. Men’s staff race; L. Emery 1, E. J. Brown 2, L. King 3. Won on the post, with a yard between second and third. Men’s sack race, Ist heat, L. Emery 1, G. Lawton 2. 2nd heat: C. Roys 1, L. King 2. Final: G. Lawton 1, L. Emery 2. L. King 3.
