LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
FIRST MEETING OF YEAR YESTERDAY.
The first meeting of the Masterton League of Mothers for 1939 was held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon. The president (Mrs L. B. Maunsell) was in the chair and there was a large attendance. The League Choir was in particularly good form and gave several items. Mrs E. J. Burke sang a solo. These items were much enjoyed and the performers were warmly thanked.
The speaker of the day, Mrs H. H. Cornish, the Provincial President of the League, was heartily welcomed and presented with a bouquet. Mrs Cornish brought greetings from the Provincial Executive and the members of the Khartdallafi League. “Fellowship and Personality within the League” was the subject dealt with very interestingly by Mrs Cornish. Throughout the Dominion, she said, there were now 6633 attending members of the League and 101 branches. A branch had lately been established at Pitcairn Island. This great fellowship of mothers could not but be a power in the land.
Mrs Cornish told several illustrativestories and urged the mothers to make the most of their children while they were still young and to share as much as possible in their interests. On concluding, Mrs Cornish was given a hearty vote of thanks.
The tea hostesses were Mesdames L. B. Maunsell, A. C. Major, J. H. Irving, G. G. Hancox and D. McNeur.
