BOROUGH AFFAIRS
MEETING OF MARTINBOROUGH COUNCIL. PROPOSED SITE OF BATHS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The deputy-Mayor, Cr N. M. Hardie, presided at the monthly meeting of the Martinborough Borough Council, held last night. Others present were Councillors C. R. Holmes, G. Cotter, W. Corfield, T. Hamilton and M. Mulvaney. Leave of absence was granted to the Mayor, Mr C. W. Skill, Councillors Green, Gundrie and Plummer. The member for the district, Mr B. Roberts, wrote stating that the council’s request for a revaluation of the borough had been referred to the Minister in charge of the Valuation Department. The council decided to again urge for a revaluation.
It was resolved to ask all business premises to close at 11 a.m. on the day of the Martinborough sports, March 25. The Public Works Department wrote stating that after an inspection, the corner of Oxford Street and Racecourse was considered dangerous, particularly now that the 30-mile-an-hour limit was nearer the town. Unless the visibility was improved considerably at the corner the higher speeds would make it more dangerous. It was suggested that the road should be well cut back at the corner. The council suggested that trees might be cut down to improve visibility. The letter was received. After some discussion it was decided that the site of the proposed centennial baths be in Constantine Park. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £3305 7s Id. Accounts amounting to £340 9s 2d were passed.
