HOMEWOOD
FUNERAL OF LATE MRS PAKU. ("Times-Age” Special.) The funeral of the late Mrs P. H. Paku, which took place at Homewood yesterday afternoon was one of the largest evei- seen in the district. The cortege extended for upwards of one mile, testifying to the esteem and respect in which she was held by Maori and Pakeha alike. Representatives of the native race were present from a wide district, extending from Palliser Bay to Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki and Palmerston North. An impressive service was conducted at the home and at the graveside by the Rev Clifford Dobbs, Vicar of Tinui. A hymn was sung by a native choir at the residence and at the graveside a hymn of farewell. Many beautiful floral tributes were received besides other messages of sympathy, from distant friends and others. The pall-bearers were Messrs John Waaka, W. G. Laing, H Bennett, L. Pike, R. Akuira and Mane Taurau. Those present were later entertained by the family.
