ROAD ACCIDENT
GREYTOWN RESIDENTS INJURED NEAR SILVERSTREAM. TRUCK AND MOTOR-CYCLE COLLIDE. , (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. When the motor-cycle he was riding became involved-in a collision with a motor-truck on the main hghway near Silvcrstream at about 4.30 p.m. yesterday Mr Raymond Joseph Higgins, aged 20, farm labourer. Greytown, received a compound fracture of his right thigh and had both arms fractured. He was taken to the Wellington Public Hospital by the Free Ambulance. His condition last night was reported to be fairly serious. A pillion rider on the motor-cycle, Miss R. Flood, Cotterville Street, Greytown, received abrasions on her right knee and a lacerated wound on her right hand. She was taken to hospital and treated as an out-patient. Miss Flood and Mr Higgins were attended at the scene of the accident by Dr. F. W. Kemp, Upper Hutt. Mr Higgins also suffered severe shock. The accident occurred as the motorcycle was approaching the short concrete bridge which spans a culvert halfway between St. Patrick’s College and the new traffic bridge. The motorcycle was travelling in the direction of Wellington and was following a car. The truck was moving from the opposite direction.
