PERSONAL
A Washington cablegram reports the death from tuberculosis of Mr Hirosi Saito, a former Japanese Ambassador to the United States. Sir Alfred Ransom and Messrs C. C. Jackson and M. Welch attended the annual reunion of the Hutt Football Club, held during the week-end. It is believed that they are the only surviving members of the old Epuni Football Club, in which they were known by the names of “Eff,” “Jacko” and “Mot,” respectively. The new chief of the Air Staff of New Zealand, Group Captain Hugh W. L. Saunders, M.C., D.F.C., M.M., arrived at Auckland by the Mataoa from Southampton on Saturday. He will succeed Group Captain, the Hon R. A. Cochrane,'and will remain in New Zealand for about two years, when it is hoped by the authorities that a New Zealander will have been sufficiently trained to take over the appointment. Group Captain Saunders has been promoted from the rank of wing commander for his -New Zealand duties. Group Captain Saunders is a South African by birth and his service in the Royal Air Force began in 1917. Since the Great War he has served in Egypt and Iraq. As his decorations show, he gained high distinction in war service.
