TAXI ON FIRE

INTERIOR BADLY DAMAGED. A taxi belonging to Mr H. R. Cross, of Masterton, while conveying a party yesterday afternoon on a round-trip from Masterton via Gladstone and Carterton and back to Masterton caught fire near the Te Whiti Settlement Road. The fire appeared to originate at the back of the car. Mr Cross was able to drive the car to the Taueru River, over which the road passes and was thus enabled to secure a supply of water, by which means the fire was extinguished, but not before considerable damage had been done to the upholstery.
