GARDEN PARTY

ANNUAL CHURCH OF ENGLAND GATHERING. The grounds of “Te Kowhai,” Lansdowne, kindly lent by Mrs Jackson made a fine setting for the annual Church of England Garden Party, held on Saturday. There was a large attendance, and the function proved a very happy and successful one. The secretary of the Guild, Mrs J. M. Aikman, had everything so organised that the Garden Party ran most smoothly. The Masterton Municipal Band rende'red very acceptable and appreciated selections. Competitions were won as follows: Salad bowl, Mrs T. Jordan; croquet, Mr Richards; nail driving, Mrs Jordan and Mr Levens; big shot, Roger Hunter; chain stepping, Mr R. Penistone. The stall-holders were: Sweets, Mesdames, L. Emery, Burke, Ramsay, Misses Brown and Robieson; produce, Mesdames Birch, Deans, Borthwick, A. Williams; cake, Mesdames Judd, Alexander, Miss N. Judd; flowers, Miss M. Perry and Mrs Skeet; soft drinks, Mesdames Heath and Henderson; work stall, Mrs Sutherland, Miss Cresswell; penny dips, Master G. Jaine, character reading, Mrs Latimer, side shows, members of C.E.M.S.; tea rooms, Mesdames Gray, Hope, Hatch, Wood, Hunter, Misses B. Howard, E. Jones, G. Hopkins, N. Hope, J. and G. Gray. The proceeds of the Garden Party amounted to £47 11s 9d. ing devoted to the fund for carrying out permanent improvements to the Church and Parish Hall paths.
