WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION COMPETITIONS MEMORIAL VERSUS MARTINBOROUGH. A GRADE MATCH. Playing on the Memorial club courts in an A grade match on Saturday afternoon the Memorial Tennis Club’s team established a winning lead against a team from Martinborough in an uncompleted match. The courts were playing very fast and the weather was perfect. At the close of play Memorial had won 13 matches to Martinborough’s 6. The results were as follow (Memorial players mentioned first in every case): — Men’s singles: D. Leete lost to G. S. McLeod. 2/6, 5/6; A. Andrew beat C. Ward, 6/1, 4/6, 6/3; F. Phillips lost to E. Evans 4/6, 5/6; J. A. Kennedy beat O. Grant, 5/6, 6/3, 6/2; L. Person beat M. McLeod, 6/4, 4/6, 6/3; B. Carrig lost to P. Ward, 6/4, 4/6 2/6. Ladies’ Singles: Miss Kilmister beat Mrs G. S. McLeod, 9/7; Miss Percy lost to Miss M. Ward, 6/9; Mrs Connolly beat Miss J. McLeod, 9/3; Miss Wickens beat Miss B. McLeod, 9/4; Miss Rayne lost to Mrs B. Feast 8/9; Mrs Person beat Miss N. Prussing, 9/2. Men’s doubles: L. Person and J. A. Kennedy beat G. S. McLeod and C. Ward, 1/6, 6/2,. 7/5; D. Leete and A. Andrew lost to E. Evans and O. Grant, 3/6,' 6/1, 2/6; F. Phillips and B. Carrig beat McLeod and P. Ward, 6/2, 6/4. Ladies’ doubles: Misses Kilmister and Percy beat Mrs G. S. McLeod and Miss M. Ward, 9/8; Mrs Connolly and Miss Wickens beat Miss J. McLeod and Miss B. McLeod, 9/1; Mrs Person and Miss Rayne beat Mrs B. Feast and Miss N. Prussing, 9/6. (Only one combined doubles match was played. Provincial —Picnic at Akura. 12pt. METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL. LIST OF PRIZE WINNERS. Under ideal conditions the- Masterton Methodist Sunday School held its annual picnic on Saturday on the property of Mr L. T. Danniell, Akura, with a goodly gathering of scholars and older people. The shaded banks and waters of the Waipoua provided a fine site for games, gatherings and sports. The catering committee led by Mrs C. D. Shoosmith and Miss E. Beale did great work and Mr C.,D. Shoossmith assisted by Miss D. O’Donnell and Mr A. Griggs organised a novel series of races besides the usual games. At the conclusion of the day, the superintendent Minister, the Rev F. J. Parker, expressed the school’s thanks to Mr Daniell for his interest and congratulated Mr J. H. Conly, the superintendent of the school and his staff on the excellent conduct of the picnic. Cheers were accorded Messrs Daniell and Conly. Thanks were also voted to generous friends:—Mr S. Ralph, sweets; Mr N. Jones, milk; Mr G. Masters and team, carting; Miss E. Beale, balloons; “Times-Age”, paper; C. E. Daniell Ltd., W.F.C.A. Ltd., Y.M.C.A., loan of gear. After Mr Parker had presented the prizes, Mr Daniell won the enthusiasm of the children by teaching them part of ’a haka, the rest of its being kept in store for next year.
