OBITUARY
♦ MR J. J. RODDEN. Mr Joseph John Rodden, of Russell Street, Palmerston North, who died on Tuesday in his 69th year was a popular figure and exceptionally wellknown in both business and rural communities throughout the North Island, particularly in the Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa areas. • Born in County Leitrim, Ireland, Mr Rodden came to New Zealand in 1923 and took up his residence in Palmerston North, where he joined the sales organisation of the International Harvester Company of New Zealand Ltd., and led a very active and successful commercial life. He took an active part as Grand Lodge officer in Carrick-on-Shannon, Ireland, and was a joining member of the United Manawatu Lodge No. 1721. Surviving the late Mr Rodden are his widow and family—Messrs J. W. Rodden (assistant manager in London for the New Zealand Dairy Board and now en route to New Zealand on the Dominion Monarch), J. F. Rodden and A. E. Rodden (Palmerston North), C. Rodden (Wellington), Mrs J. W. Ganley (Paeroa) and Miss Phyllis Rodden (Palmerston North). The funeral took place on Thursday at Kelvin Grove cemetery and there was a service at All Saints' Church, this being conducted by Canon G. Y. i Woodward.
