SUCCESSFUL SWIMMING SPORTS. MANY MASTERTON COMPETITORS. ("Times-Age" Special.) A party of Masterton swimmers competed at the swimming sports held at the Eketahuna baths on Thursday evening, in connection with the Keep Fit Week. There was a large crowd of spectators and an excellent night’s entertainment was provided, although the water was cold. A short address was given by Mr J. Robertson, M.P., on keeping fit in general and on swimming in particular. The visitors were entertained at supper and a dance followed. Barnes, J. Barnes, F. Morton), 1; Masterton juniors (R. Major, E. Hollings, F. Sexton, Dickason), 2; Masterton B (Bodie, B. Bodie, ■ Petersen, Gaze), 3. Car Overturns. A car accident was reported late on Wednesday night, one of the occupants being taken to hospital. The car was driven by Mr . Jojmston, of Welling-, ton, and with him were Miss Joan Harris, Mr Matson and Miss Moriarty. They were returning from Pahiatua. Intending to turn at the Mangamaire corner the driver turned towards Nireaha instead. In turning round to proceed in the desired direction the catturned over. Miss Harris was seen to be hurt and Constable McCowan and Dr. E. M. Simmers were soon on the scene. After receiving attention Miss Harris was conveyed to the Pahiatua Hospital. Garden Party. A garden party held by the Anglican Church in the grounds of Mr and Mrs A. H. Herbert’s home on Thursday was an unqualified success. The various stalls were well filled, the produce and cake stalls being particularly well laden. The competitions were well supported, Mrs Vvaterreus being the lucky cake winner, Miss Greathead drawing the dinner and Mrs Brittain the lady’s knitted outfit. A dance was held in the .evening at St. Cuthbert’s Hall. Excellent music was supplied by Messrs Marenzi, Liardet and Bouzaid with Mr H. E. Rogers as M.C. Gathering at Kaiparoro. A very successful and enjoyable garden party was held at the residence of Mrs McAnulty Sent-., Kaiparoro, in aid of funds for St. Cuthbert’s Church, Eketahuna. During the afternoon the stalls did a brisk trade. Keen interest was taken in a guessing competition, the prize being donated by Mrs Alex. Falkner, and various games were enjoyed by all. At the conclusion of the afternoon the Rev. L. Ives thanked Mrs McAnulty for her hospitality and all helpers for making the party such a splendid success. Residents Farewelled. Mr and Mrs R. B. McLellan were farewelled on Thursday on the eve of their departure to reside in the South Island, their new farm home being situated ten miles from Blenheim. Mr G. A. Hansen said that he had been associated for the last three years with Mr McLellan in the Labour movement. Mr McLellan had been the branch secretary and had proved himself one in a thousand and in the branch he would be greatly missed. In making the presentation of a handsome chiming clock, Mr J. Robertson, M.P., said with it meant all good wishes for their prosperity and for the well-being of themselves and their family. Musical honours were heartily accorded the guests.
