OPIUM SMOKING
WOMAN FINED IN WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. “We have not many female addicts in Wellington. She is about the only one we know of,” said Sub-Inspector O’Neill, when Marjorie Lock, aged 39, pleaded guilty, before Mr j. L. Stout. S.M., to being found in possession of opium in a. form suitable for smoking. The Woman, the- sub-inspector said, was the wife of a Chinese and her husband was serving a sentence for an opium offence. It was also stated that when the premises were entered, accused offered a constable £5 to say nothing. Accused: “I would like to keep my name out of the papers.” “You know if you go on like this the minimum fine is £25," said Mr Stout, imposing a fine of that amount and allowing a month in which to pay.
