CARTERTON SALE

WRIGHT, STEPHENSON & CO LTD. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co Ltd report: We held our weekly sale at Carterton yesterday. Owing to the fact that a sale was not held last week, a heavier yarding than usual was submitted to the usual attendance. The sheep were of very mixed quality, especially in the ewe section. Bidding dragged and prices were on the low side. Several good pens of springing heifers were offered and these met with very spirited competition. Fat and forward cows also met a buoyant sale. Pigs sold well and all pens changed hands at late rates. Following are prices:— Sheep—Fat ewes, 9s 6d to 10s: ewe lambs, 12s Bd, 14s 8d; b.f. lambs, Ils, 11s 3d. 12s, 13s 7d; shorn wr lambs, 8s 4d, 8s 6d, 8s 8d; small b.f. lambs, 6s 9d, 7s 8d; small m.s. lambs, 7s; 5-year owes, 13s Id, 13s 3d; s.m. ewes. 7s 3d. 8s Bd, 9s 10s; 2-th ewes. 235; m.a. ewes, Ils lOd, 18s 7d; f.m. ewes, 4s Bd, 4s 9d. 6s 9d; S.D. rams, to 21 guineas. Cattle: —Springing Jersey cross heifers, £6 5s to £10; heifers, just calved, to £9 15s; fat cows, £5 to £6 8s; forward cows, £3 16s to £4 15s; store cows, £2 to £2 15s; cows and calves. £3 17s 6d to £5. Pigs:—Weaners (good). 12s to. 16s: (medium), 9s 6d to Ils 6d (small), 4s to 8s; slips, 17s to 19s 6d; store pigs, 20s to 265; light porkers. 28s to 345; porkers 35s to £2 10s 6d; choppers, 30s to £3.
