GRASS FIRE CHECKED (“Times-Age” Special.) Although it was deemed advisable to call out the local Fire Brigade to a grass fire which had spread to the school grounds on Wednesday morning,’ the services of the brigade were not required, as the fire was extinguished by a band of willing helpers before any serious damage was done. Croquet. The following games have been played in the B grade croquet championships: Mrs Donald beat Mrs White 24/26, 26/9, 26/17; Mrs Hankers beat Mrs Donald, 26/13, 26/20; Miss Card beat Mrs White, 22/26, 26/12, 26/22. Second life: Mrs Hankers beat Mrs Donald. 26/20, 18/26, 26/9. Farewell Gathering. A pleasant time was spent at the Vicarage on Tuesday afternoon when the ladies of St John’s fellowship met to bid farewell to Mrs Algar Williams, who has been an active member of, the fellowship and president of the guild for some years. Mrs Williams was given a beautiful bouquet of flowers collected from the gardens of those present, and also a card signed by the members of the guild and fellowship. Tea was served and a happy time spent in an informal chat with the guest.
