ATTITUDE OF INSPECTOR

SEQUEL TO COUNTY COUNCIL DISCUSSION. COUNCILLOR .EXPRESSES REGRET. ("Times-Age” Special.) Statements at last month’s meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council, when Councillor A. E. Reid, amongst other things, urged that a Wairarapa Traffic Inspector show a “less overbearing manner towards motorists,” were dealt with at yesterday’s meetings of the council when, after a discussion taken in committee, the following statement by Councillor Reid, was handed to the Press: ■ “I very much regret that it is necessary for me to refer to the complaint that I made at the last meeting of the Council, when I made reference to the behaviour of a Traffic Inspector towards a motorist, and moved a motion, which was seconded and carried, to the effect that a letter be written to the Commissioner of Transport, asking that the Traffic Inspector show a less overbearing manner towards motorists.” “The seriousness of the position has arisen through my remarks, which were made under a misapprehension of the incident, being sent to all the papers by a Press Association message, when that was not the considered opinion of the council, which only stressed that inspectors should not be overbearing in their manner. "As an unintended injustice has been done to an officer, and I realise that he and his fellow officers have a thankless task to perform, I regret that pressed myself in the manner I did. and I. would like the Inspector to know that I am sorry if he has been hurt personally. May I suggest that a copy of my statement be sent to the Commissioner and to the Traffic Inspector.” A copy of Councillor Reid’s statement is to be sent to the Commissioner and to the Traffic Inspector concerned.
