ROAD SAFETY
NEW PENNANT HOISTED IN WELLINGTON. BEARING TWO BLACK CROSSES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Wellington’s road safety pennant was hoisted again today. I'l now bears two black crosses, showing that since December 5 there have boon two fatalities in the city and suburbs. When hauled down on February 10. as a result of a fatality, the pennant was practically worn out. It was replaced today by one presented by the Deputy Mayor, Mr Martin Luckic, chairman of a committee dealing with road safety for the city. There was some doubt, prior to the first fatality which caused the striking of the old flag, whether it had not boon up long enough in view of the fact that the Safety Campaign was carried out come time previously and it had been decided to take it down on February 11 in any case, but the Transport Minister (the Hon R. Semple; has suggested that during 1939 cities should fly pennants to see which could achieve the longest fatality-free record. This, he says, would prepare for the centennial year traffic end keep the need of saving lives before citizens.
