General Smuts introduced in the Assembly a Companies Act which aims to prevent abuses of company administration and exploitation of the public. Share hawking is strictly prohibited, also purchase of a company’s own shares, directly or through a subsidiary. Fines will be imposed for false statements in a prospectus. The accounts must disclose loans or remuneration paid to directors, who must disclose changes in names and nationality.
